Mark chapter 8

Mark 8:1
CA  In jainaim þan dagam aftra at filu managai managein wisandein jah ni habandam hva matidedeina, athaitands siponjans qaþuh du im:
— ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις πάλιν πολλοῦ ὄχλου ὄντος καὶ μὴ ἐχόντων τί φάγωσιν, προσκαλεσάμενος τοὺς μαθητὰς λέγει αὐτοῖς,
— In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
Mark 8:2
CA  infeinoda du þizai managein, unte ju dagans þrins miþ mis wesun jah ni haband hva matjaina;
— σπλαγχνίζομαι ἐπὶ τὸν ὄχλον ὅτι ἤδη ἡμέραι τρεῖς προσμένουσίν μοι καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν τί φάγωσιν:
— I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
Mark 8:3
CA  jah jabai fraleta ins lausqiþrans du garda ize, ufligand ana wiga; sumai raihtis ize fairraþro qemun.
— καὶ ἐὰν ἀπολύσω αὐτοὺς νήστεις εἰς οἶκον αὐτῶν, ἐκλυθήσονται ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ: καί τινες αὐτῶν ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἥκασιν.
— And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
Mark 8:4
CA  jah andhofun imma siponjos is: hvaþro þans mag hvas gasoþjan hlaibam ana auþidai?
— καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι πόθεν τούτους δυνήσεταί τις ὧδε χορτάσαι ἄρτων ἐπ' ἐρημίας;
— And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
Mark 8:5
CA  jah frah ins: hvan managans habaiþ hlaibans? eis qeþun: sibun.
— καὶ ἠρώτα αὐτούς, πόσους ἔχετε ἄρτους; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, ἑπτά.
— And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
Mark 8:6
CA  jah anabauþ þizai managein anakumbjan ana airþai; jah nimands þans sibun hlaibans jah awiliudonds gabrak jah atgaf siponjam seinaim, ei atlagidedeina faur; jah atlagidedun faur þo managein.
— καὶ παραγγέλλει τῷ ὄχλῳ ἀναπεσεῖν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς: καὶ λαβὼν τοὺς ἑπτὰ ἄρτους εὐχαριστήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ἐδίδου τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ ἵνα παρατιθῶσιν καὶ παρέθηκαν τῷ ὄχλῳ.
— And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
Mark 8:7
CA  jah habaidedun fiskans fawans, jah þans gaþiuþjands qaþ ei atlagidedeina jah þans.
— καὶ εἶχον ἰχθύδια ὀλίγα: καὶ εὐλογήσας αὐτὰ εἶπεν καὶ ταῦτα παρατιθέναι.
— And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
Mark 8:8
CA  gamatidedun þan jah sadai waurþun; jah usnemun laibos gabruko sibun spwreidans.
— καὶ ἔφαγον καὶ ἐχορτάσθησαν, καὶ ἦραν περισσεύματα κλασμάτων ἑπτὰ σπυρίδας.
— So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
Mark 8:9
CA  wesunuþ~þan þai matjandans swe fidwor þusundjos; jah fralailot ins.
— ἦσαν δὲ ὡς τετρακισχίλιοι. καὶ ἀπέλυσεν αὐτούς.
— And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
Mark 8:10
CA  jah galaiþ sunsaiw in skip miþ siponjam seinaim, jah qam ana fera Magdalan.
— καὶ εὐθὺς ἐμβὰς εἰς τὸ πλοῖον μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ἦλθεν εἰς τὰ μέρη δαλμανουθά.
— And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
Mark 8:11
CA  jah urrunnun Fareisaieis jah dugunnun miþsokjan imma sokjandans du imma taikn us himina, fraisandans ina.
— καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ φαρισαῖοι καὶ ἤρξαντο συζητεῖν αὐτῷ, ζητοῦντες παρ' αὐτοῦ σημεῖον ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, πειράζοντες αὐτόν.
— And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
Mark 8:12
CA  jah ufswogjands ahmin seinamma qaþ: hva þata kuni taikn sokeiþ? amen, qiþa izwis: jabai gibaidau kunja þamma taikne.
— καὶ ἀναστενάξας τῷ πνεύματι αὐτοῦ λέγει, τί ἡ γενεὰ αὕτη ζητεῖ σημεῖον; ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, εἰ δοθήσεται τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ σημεῖον.
— And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
Mark 8:13
CA  jah afletands ins, galeiþands aftra in skip uslaiþ hindar marein.
— καὶ ἀφεὶς αὐτοὺς πάλιν ἐμβὰς ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸ πέραν.
— And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
Mark 8:14
CA  jah ufarmunnodedun niman hlaibans jah niba ainana hlaif ni habaidedun miþ sis in skipa.
— καὶ ἐπελάθοντο λαβεῖν ἄρτους, καὶ εἰ μὴ ἕνα ἄρτον οὐκ εἶχον μεθ' ἑαυτῶν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ.
— Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
Mark 8:15
CA  jah anabauþ im qiþands: saihviþ ei atsaihviþ izwis þis beistis Fareisaie jah beistis Herodis.
— καὶ διεστέλλετο αὐτοῖς λέγων, ὁρᾶτε, βλέπετε ἀπὸ τῆς ζύμης τῶν φαρισαίων καὶ τῆς ζύμης ἡρῴδου.
— And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
Mark 8:16
CA  jah þahtedun miþ sis misso qiþandans: unte hlaibans ni habam.
— καὶ διελογίζοντο πρὸς ἀλλήλους ὅτι ἄρτους οὐκ ἔχουσιν.
— And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
Mark 8:17
CA  jah fraþjands Iesus qaþ du im: hva þaggkeiþ unte hlaibans ni habaiþ? ni nauh fraþjiþ nih wituþ, unte daubata habaiþ hairto izwar.
— καὶ γνοὺς λέγει αὐτοῖς, τί διαλογίζεσθε ὅτι ἄρτους οὐκ ἔχετε; οὔπω νοεῖτε οὐδὲ συνίετε; πεπωρωμένην ἔχετε τὴν καρδίαν ὑμῶν;
— And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
Mark 8:18
CA  augona habandans ni gasaihviþ, jah ausona habandans ni gahauseiþ jah ni gamunuþ.
— ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντες οὐ βλέπετε καὶ ὦτα ἔχοντες οὐκ ἀκούετε; καὶ οὐ μνημονεύετε,
— Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
Mark 8:19
CA  þan þans fimf hlaibans gabrak fimf þusundjom, hvan managos tainjons fullos gabruko usnemuþ? qeþun du imma: twalif.
— ὅτε τοὺς πέντε ἄρτους ἔκλασα εἰς τοὺς πεντακισχιλίους, πόσους κοφίνους κλασμάτων πλήρεις ἤρατε; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ, δώδεκα.
— When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
Mark 8:20
CA  aþþan þan þans sibun hlaibans fidwor þusundjom, hvan managans spwreidans fullans gabruko usnemuþ? eis qeþun: sibun.
— ὅτε τοὺς ἑπτὰ εἰς τοὺς τετρακισχιλίους, πόσων σπυρίδων πληρώματα κλασμάτων ἤρατε; καὶ λέγουσιν [αὐτῷ], ἑπτά.
— And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
Mark 8:21
CA  jah qaþ du im: hvaiwa ni nauh fraþjiþ?
— καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, οὔπω συνίετε;
— And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
Mark 8:22
CA  jah qemun in Beþaniin jah berun du imma blindan jah bedun ina ei imma attaitoki.
— καὶ ἔρχονται εἰς βηθσαϊδάν. καὶ φέρουσιν αὐτῷ τυφλὸν καὶ παρακαλοῦσιν αὐτὸν ἵνα αὐτοῦ ἅψηται.
— And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
Mark 8:23
CA  jah fairgreipands handu þis blindins ustauh ina utana weihsis jah speiwands in augona is, atlagjands ana handuns seinos frah ina ga~u~hva~sehvi?
— καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ τυφλοῦ ἐξήνεγκεν αὐτὸν ἔξω τῆς κώμης, καὶ πτύσας εἰς τὰ ὄμματα αὐτοῦ, ἐπιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῷ, ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν, εἴ τι βλέπεις;
— And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
Mark 8:24
CA  jah ussaihvands qaþ: gasaihva mans, þatei swe bagmans gasaihva gaggandans.
— καὶ ἀναβλέψας ἔλεγεν, βλέπω τοὺς ἀνθρώπους, ὅτι ὡς δένδρα ὁρῶ περιπατοῦντας.
— And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
Mark 8:25
CA  þaþroh aftra galagida handuns ana þo augona is jah gatawida ina ussaihvan; jah aftra gasatiþs warþ jah gasahv bairhtaba allans.
— εἶτα πάλιν ἐπέθηκεν τὰς χεῖρας ἐπὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ, καὶ διέβλεψεν, καὶ ἀπεκατέστη, καὶ ἐνέβλεπεν τηλαυγῶς ἅπαντα.
— After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
Mark 8:26
CA  jah insandida ina du garda is qiþands: ni in þata weihs gaggais, ni mannhun qiþais in þamma wehsa.
— καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτὸν εἰς οἶκον αὐτοῦ λέγων, μηδὲ εἰς τὴν κώμην εἰσέλθῃς.
— And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
Mark 8:27
CA  jah usiddja Iesus jah siponjos is in wehsa Kaisarias þizos Filippaus: jah ana wiga frah siponjans seinans qiþands du im: hvana mik qiþand mans wisan?
— καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὰς κώμας καισαρείας τῆς φιλίππου: καὶ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἐπηρώτα τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ λέγων αὐτοῖς, τίνα με λέγουσιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι εἶναι;
— And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
Mark 8:28
CA   eis andhofun: Iohannen þana daupjand, jah anþarai Helian: sumaih þan ainana praufete.
— οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες [ὅτι] ἰωάννην τὸν βαπτιστήν, καὶ ἄλλοι, ἠλίαν, ἄλλοι δὲ ὅτι εἷς τῶν προφητῶν.
— And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
Mark 8:29
CA  jah is qaþ du im: aþþan jus, hvana mik qiþiþ wisan? andhafjands þan Paitrus qaþ du imma: þu is Xristus.
— καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπηρώτα αὐτούς, ὑμεῖς δὲ τίνα με λέγετε εἶναι; ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ πέτρος λέγει αὐτῷ, σὺ εἶ ὁ χριστός.
— And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
Mark 8:30

— καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ λέγωσιν περὶ αὐτοῦ.
— And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
Mark 8:31
CA  jah dugann laisjan ins þatei skal sunus mans filu winnan jah uskiusan skulds ist fram þaim sinistam jah þaim auhumistam gudjam jah bokarjam jah usqiman jah afar þrins dagans usstandan.
— καὶ ἤρξατο διδάσκειν αὐτοὺς ὅτι δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου πολλὰ παθεῖν καὶ ἀποδοκιμασθῆναι ὑπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἀναστῆναι:
— And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Mark 8:32
CA  jah swikunþaba þata waurd rodida; jah aftiuhands ina Paitrus dugann andbeitan ina;
— καὶ παρρησίᾳ τὸν λόγον ἐλάλει. καὶ προσλαβόμενος ὁ πέτρος αὐτὸν ἤρξατο ἐπιτιμᾶν αὐτῷ.
— And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
Mark 8:33

— ὁ δὲ ἐπιστραφεὶς καὶ ἰδὼν τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἐπετίμησεν πέτρῳ καὶ λέγει, ὕπαγε ὀπίσω μου, σατανᾶ, ὅτι οὐ φρονεῖς τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀλλὰ τὰ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.
— But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
Mark 8:34
CA  jah athaitands þo managein miþ siponjam seinaim qaþ du im: saei wili afar mis laistjan, inwidai sik silban jah nimai galgan seinana jah laistjai mik.
— καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν ὄχλον σὺν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ἀκολουθεῖν, ἀπαρνησάσθω ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι.
— And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mark 8:35
CA  saei allis wili saiwala seina ganasjan, fraqisteiþ izai: saei fraqisteiþ saiwalai seinai in meina jah in þizos aiwaggeljons, ganasjiþ þo.
— ὃς γὰρ ἐὰν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι ἀπολέσει αὐτήν: ὃς δ' ἂν ἀπολέσει τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ καὶ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου σώσει αὐτήν.
— For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
Mark 8:36
CA  hva auk boteiþ mannan, jabai gageigaiþ þana fairhvu allana jah gasleiþeiþ sik saiwalai seinai?
— τί γὰρ ὠφελεῖ ἄνθρωπον κερδῆσαι τὸν κόσμον ὅλον καὶ ζημιωθῆναι τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ;
— For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Mark 8:37
CA  aiþþau hva gibiþ manna inmaidein saiwalos seinaizos?
— τί γὰρ δοῖ ἄνθρωπος ἀντάλλαγμα τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ;
— Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Mark 8:38
CA  unte saei skamaiþ sik meina jah waurde meinaize in gabaurþai þizai horinondein jah frawaurhton, jah sunus mans skamaiþ sik is, þan qimiþ in wulþau attins seinis miþ aggilum þaim weiham.
— ὃς γὰρ ἐὰν ἐπαισχυνθῇ με καὶ τοὺς ἐμοὺς λόγους ἐν τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ τῇ μοιχαλίδι καὶ ἁμαρτωλῷ, καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπαισχυνθήσεται αὐτὸν ὅταν ἔλθῃ ἐν τῇ δόξῃ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ἀγγέλων τῶν ἁγίων.
— Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
