Mark chapter 4

Mark 4:1
CA  Jah aftra [Iesus] dugann laisjan at marein, jah galesun sik du imma manageins filu, swaswe ina galeiþan<dan> in skip gasitan in marein; jah alla so managei wiþra marein ana staþa was.
— καὶ πάλιν ἤρξατο διδάσκειν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν. καὶ συνάγεται πρὸς αὐτὸν ὄχλος πλεῖστος, ὥστε αὐτὸν εἰς πλοῖον ἐμβάντα καθῆσθαι ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἦσαν.
— And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.
Mark 4:2

— καὶ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν παραβολαῖς πολλά, καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ,
— And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,
Mark 4:3
CA  hauseiþ! sai, urrann sa saiands du saian fraiwa seinamma.
— ἀκούετε. ἰδοὺ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ σπείρων σπεῖραι.
— Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:
Mark 4:4
CA  jah warþ, miþþanei saiso, sum raihtis gadraus faur wig, jah qemun fuglos jah fretun þata.
— καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ σπείρειν ὃ μὲν ἔπεσεν παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν, καὶ ἦλθεν τὰ πετεινὰ καὶ κατέφαγεν αὐτό.
— And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
Mark 4:5
CA  anþaruþ~þan gadraus ana stainahamma, þarei ni habaida airþa managa, jah suns urrann, in þizei ni habaida diupaizos airþos;
— καὶ ἄλλο ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὸ πετρῶδες ὅπου οὐκ εἶχεν γῆν πολλήν, καὶ εὐθὺς ἐξανέτειλεν διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν βάθος γῆς:
— And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
Mark 4:6
CA  at sunnin þan urrinnandin ufbrann, jah unte ni habaida waurtins, gaþaursnoda.
— καὶ ὅτε ἀνέτειλεν ὁ ἥλιος ἐκαυματίσθη, καὶ διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν ῥίζαν ἐξηράνθη.
— But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
Mark 4:7
CA  jah sum gadraus in þaurnuns; jah ufarstigun þai þaurnjus jah afhvapidedun þata, jah akran ni gaf.
— καὶ ἄλλο ἔπεσεν εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας, καὶ ἀνέβησαν αἱ ἄκανθαι καὶ συνέπνιξαν αὐτό, καὶ καρπὸν οὐκ ἔδωκεν.
— And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
Mark 4:8
CA  jah sum gadraus in airþa goda jah gaf akran urrinnando jah wahsjando, jah bar ain ·l· jah ain ·j· jah ain ·r·
— καὶ ἄλλα ἔπεσεν εἰς τὴν γῆν τὴν καλήν, καὶ ἐδίδου καρπὸν ἀναβαίνοντα καὶ αὐξανόμενα, καὶ ἔφερεν ἓν τριάκοντα καὶ ἓν ἑξήκοντα καὶ ἓν ἑκατόν.
— And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
Mark 4:9
CA  jah qaþ: saei habai ausona hausjandona, gahausjai.
— καὶ ἔλεγεν, ὃς ἔχει ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω.
— And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Mark 4:10
CA   biþe warþ sundro, frehun ina þai bi ina miþ þaim twalibim þizos gajukons.
— καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο κατὰ μόνας, ἠρώτων αὐτὸν οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν σὺν τοῖς δώδεκα τὰς παραβολάς.
— And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
Mark 4:11
CA  jah qaþ im: izwis atgiban ist kunnan runa þiudangardjos gudis, jainaim þaim uta in gajukom allata wairþiþ,
— καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, ὑμῖν τὸ μυστήριον δέδοται τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ: ἐκείνοις δὲ τοῖς ἔξω ἐν παραβολαῖς τὰ πάντα γίνεται,
— And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
Mark 4:12
CA  ei saihvandans saihvaina jah ni gaumjaina, jah hausjandans hausjaina jah ni fraþjaina, ibai hvan gawandjaina sik jah afletaindau im frawaurhteis.
— ἵνα βλέποντες βλέπωσιν καὶ μὴ ἴδωσιν, καὶ ἀκούοντες ἀκούωσιν καὶ μὴ συνιῶσιν, μήποτε ἐπιστρέψωσιν καὶ ἀφεθῇ αὐτοῖς.
— That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Mark 4:13
CA  jah qaþ du im: ni wituþ þo gajukon, jah hvaiwa allos þos gajukons kunneiþ?
— καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς, οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην, καὶ πῶς πάσας τὰς παραβολὰς γνώσεσθε;
— And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
Mark 4:14
CA  sa saijands waurd saijiþ.
— ὁ σπείρων τὸν λόγον σπείρει.
— The sower soweth the word.
Mark 4:15
CA  aþþan þai wiþra wig sind, þarei saiada þata waurd, jah þan gahausjand unkarjans, suns qimiþ Satanas jah usnimiþ waurd þata insaiano in hairtam ize.
— οὗτοι δέ εἰσιν οἱ παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ὅπου σπείρεται ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν εὐθὺς ἔρχεται ὁ σατανᾶς καὶ αἴρει τὸν λόγον τὸν ἐσπαρμένον εἰς αὐτούς.
— And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
Mark 4:16
CA  jah <þai> sind samaleiko þai ana stainahamma saianans, þaiei þan hausjand þata waurd, suns miþ fahedai nimand ita
— καὶ οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπειρόμενοι, οἳ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνουσιν αὐτόν,
— And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
Mark 4:17
CA  jah ni haband waurtins in sis, ak hveilahvairbai sind; þaþroh, biþe qimiþ aglo aiþþau wrakja in þis waurdis, suns gamarzjanda.
— καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιροί εἰσιν: εἶτα γενομένης θλίψεως ἢ διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς σκανδαλίζονται.
— And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
Mark 4:18
CA  jah þai sind þai in þaurnuns saianans, þai waurd hausjandans,
— καὶ ἄλλοι εἰσὶν οἱ εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας σπειρόμενοι: οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ τὸν λόγον ἀκούσαντες,
— And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

CA  jah saurgos þizos libainais jah afmarzeins gabeins jah þai bi þata anþar lustjus innatgaggandans afhvapjand þata waurd, jah akranalaus wairþiþ.
— καὶ αἱ μέριμναι τοῦ αἰῶνος καὶ ἡ ἀπάτη τοῦ πλούτου καὶ αἱ περὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἐπιθυμίαι εἰσπορευόμεναι συμπνίγουσιν τὸν λόγον, καὶ ἄκαρπος γίνεται.
— And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Mark 4:20
CA  jah þai sind þai ana airþai þizai godon saianans, þaiei hausjand þata waurd jah andnimand jah akran bairand, ain ·l· jah ain ·j· jah ain ·r·
— καὶ ἐκεῖνοί εἰσιν οἱ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τὴν καλὴν σπαρέντες, οἵτινες ἀκούουσιν τὸν λόγον καὶ παραδέχονται καὶ καρποφοροῦσιν ἓν τριάκοντα καὶ ἓν ἑξήκοντα καὶ ἓν ἑκατόν.
— And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
Mark 4:21
CA  jah qaþ du im: ibai lukarn qimiþ duþe ei uf melan satjaidau aiþþau undar ligr? niu ei ana lukarnastaþan satjaidau?
— καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, μήτι ἔρχεται ὁ λύχνος ἵνα ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον τεθῇ ἢ ὑπὸ τὴν κλίνην; οὐχ ἵνα ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν τεθῇ;
— And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
Mark 4:22
CA  nih allis ist hva fulginis þatei ni gabairhtjaidau: nih warþ analaugn, ak ei swikunþ wairþai.
— οὐ γάρ ἐστιν κρυπτὸν ἐὰν μὴ ἵνα φανερωθῇ, οὐδὲ ἐγένετο ἀπόκρυφον ἀλλ' ἵνα ἔλθῃ εἰς φανερόν.
— For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
Mark 4:23
CA  jabai hvas habai ausona hausjandona, gahausjai.
— εἴ τις ἔχει ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω.
— If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
Mark 4:24
CA  jah qaþ du im: saihviþ, hva hauseiþ! in þizaiei mitaþ mitiþ, mitada izwis jah biaukada izwis þaim galaubjandam.
— καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς, βλέπετε τί ἀκούετε. ἐν ᾧ μέτρῳ μετρεῖτε μετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν καὶ προστεθήσεται ὑμῖν.
— And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
Mark 4:25
CA  unte þishvammeh saei habaiþ gibada imma; jah saei ni habaiþ jah þatei habaiþ afnimada imma.
— ὃς γὰρ ἔχει, δοθήσεται αὐτῷ: καὶ ὃς οὐκ ἔχει, καὶ ὃ ἔχει ἀρθήσεται ἀπ' αὐτοῦ.
— For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
Mark 4:26
CA  jah qaþ: swa ist þiudangardi gudis, swaswe jabai manna wairpiþ fraiwa ana airþa.
— καὶ ἔλεγεν, οὕτως ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ὡς ἄνθρωπος βάλῃ τὸν σπόρον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
— And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
Mark 4:27
CA  jah slepiþ jah urreisiþ naht jah daga, jah þata fraiw keiniþ jah liudiþ swe ni wait is.
— καὶ καθεύδῃ καὶ ἐγείρηται νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν, καὶ ὁ σπόρος βλαστᾷ καὶ μηκύνηται ὡς οὐκ οἶδεν αὐτός.
— And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
Mark 4:28
CA  silbo auk airþa akran bairiþ: frumist gras, þaþroh ahs, þaþroh fulliþ kaurnis in þamma ahsa.
— αὐτομάτη ἡ γῆ καρποφορεῖ, πρῶτον χόρτον, εἶτα στάχυν, εἶτα πλήρη[ς] σῖτον ἐν τῷ στάχυϊ.
— For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
Mark 4:29
CA  þanuh biþe atgibada akran, suns insandeiþ gilþa, unte atist asans.
— ὅταν δὲ παραδοῖ ὁ καρπός, εὐθὺς ἀποστέλλει τὸ δρέπανον, ὅτι παρέστηκεν ὁ θερισμός.
— But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
Mark 4:30
CA  jah qaþ: hve galeikom þiudangardja gudis, aiþþau in hvileikai gajukon gabairam þo?
— καὶ ἔλεγεν, πῶς ὁμοιώσωμεν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ, ἢ ἐν τίνι αὐτὴν παραβολῇ θῶμεν;
— And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
Mark 4:31
CA  swe kaurno sinapis, þatei þan saiada ana airþa, minnist allaize fraiwe ist þize ana airþai;
— ὡς κόκκῳ σινάπεως, ὃς ὅταν σπαρῇ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, μικρότερον ὂν πάντων τῶν σπερμάτων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,
— It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
Mark 4:32
CA  jah þan saiada, urrinniþ jah wairþiþ allaize grase maist jah gataujiþ astans mikilans, swaswe magun uf skadau is fuglos himinis gabauan.
— καὶ ὅταν σπαρῇ, ἀναβαίνει καὶ γίνεται μεῖζον πάντων τῶν λαχάνων καὶ ποιεῖ κλάδους μεγάλους, ὥστε δύνασθαι ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνοῦν.
— But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
Mark 4:33
CA  jah swaleikaim managaim gajukom rodida du im þata waurd, swaswe mahtedun hausjon.
— καὶ τοιαύταις παραβολαῖς πολλαῖς ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον, καθὼς ἠδύναντο ἀκούειν:
— And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
Mark 4:34
CA   inuh gajukon ni rodida im, sundro siponjam seinaim andband allata.
— χωρὶς δὲ παραβολῆς οὐκ ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς, κατ' ἰδίαν δὲ τοῖς ἰδίοις μαθηταῖς ἐπέλυεν πάντα.
— But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
Mark 4:35
CA  jah qaþ du im in jainamma daga at andanahtja þan waurþanamma: usleiþam jainis stadis.
— καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὀψίας γενομένης, διέλθωμεν εἰς τὸ πέραν.
— And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
Mark 4:36
CA  jah afletandans þo managein andnemun ina swe was in skipa; jah þan anþara skipa wesun miþ imma.
— καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν ὄχλον παραλαμβάνουσιν αὐτὸν ὡς ἦν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ, καὶ ἄλλα πλοῖα ἦν μετ' αὐτοῦ.
— And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
Mark 4:37
CA  jah warþ skura windis mikila jah wegos waltidedun in skip, swaswe ita juþan gafullnoda.
— καὶ γίνεται λαῖλαψ μεγάλη ἀνέμου, καὶ τὰ κύματα ἐπέβαλλεν εἰς τὸ πλοῖον, ὥστε ἤδη γεμίζεσθαι τὸ πλοῖον.
— And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
Mark 4:38
CA  jah was is ana notin ana waggarja slepands, jah urraisidedun ina jah qeþun du imma: laisari, niu kara þuk þizei fraqistnam?
— καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἐν τῇ πρύμνῃ ἐπὶ τὸ προσκεφάλαιον καθεύδων: καὶ ἐγείρουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ, διδάσκαλε, οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἀπολλύμεθα;
— And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
Mark 4:39
CA  jah urreisands gasok winda jah qaþ du marein: gaslawai, afdumbn! jah anasilaida sa winds jah warþ wis mikil.
— καὶ διεγερθεὶς ἐπετίμησεν τῷ ἀνέμῳ καὶ εἶπεν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, σιώπα, πεφίμωσο. καὶ ἐκόπασεν ὁ ἄνεμος, καὶ ἐγένετο γαλήνη μεγάλη.
— And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:40
CA  jah qaþ du im: duhve faurhtai sijuþ swa? hvaiwa ni nauh habaiþ galaubein?
— καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί δειλοί ἐστε; οὔπω ἔχετε πίστιν;
— And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
Mark 4:41
CA  jah ohtedun sis agis mikil jah qeþun du sis misso: hvas þannu sa sijai, unte jah winds jah marei ufhausjand imma?
— καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν φόβον μέγαν, καὶ ἔλεγον πρὸς ἀλλήλους, τίς ἄρα οὗτός ἐστιν ὅτι καὶ ὁ ἄνεμος καὶ ἡ θάλασσα ὑπακούει αὐτῷ;
— And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
