Luke chapter 20

Luke 20:1
CA  Jah warþ in sumamma dage jainaize at laisjandin imma þo managein in alh jah wailamerjandin, atstoþun þai gudjans jah bokarjos miþ þaim sinistam
— καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ἡμερῶν διδάσκοντος αὐτοῦ τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ εὐαγγελιζομένου ἐπέστησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς σὺν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις,
— And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
Luke 20:2
CA  jah qeþun du imma qiþandans: qiþ unsis, in hvamma waldufnje þata taujis, aiþþau hvas ist saei gaf þus þata waldufni?
— καὶ εἶπαν λέγοντες πρὸς αὐτόν, εἰπὸν ἡμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, ἢ τίς ἐστιν ὁ δούς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην.
— And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
Luke 20:3

— ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς κἀγὼ λόγον, καὶ εἴπατέ μοι:
— And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
Luke 20:4
CA  daupeins Iohannis uzuh himina was þau uzuh mannam?
— τὸ βάπτισμα ἰωάννου ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἦν ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων;
— The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
Luke 20:5
CA   eis þahtedun miþ sis misso qiþandans þatei jabai qiþam: us himina, qiþiþ: aþþan duhve ni galaubideduþ imma?
— οἱ δὲ συνελογίσαντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες ὅτι ἐὰν εἴπωμεν, ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ, διὰ τί οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ;
— And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
Luke 20:6
CA   jabai qiþam: us mannam, alla so managei stainam afwairpiþ unsis; triggwaba galaubjand auk allai Iohannen praufetu wisan.
— ἐὰν δὲ εἴπωμεν, ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, ὁ λαὸς ἅπας καταλιθάσει ἡμᾶς, πεπεισμένος γάρ ἐστιν ἰωάννην προφήτην εἶναι.
— But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
Luke 20:7

— καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν μὴ εἰδέναι πόθεν.
— And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
Luke 20:8
CA  jah Iesus qaþ im: ni ik izwis qiþa, in hvamma waldufnje þata tauja.
— καὶ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, οὐδὲ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ.
— And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
Luke 20:9
CA  dugann þan du managein qiþan þo gajukon: manna ussatida weinagard, jah anafalh ina waurstwjam jah aflaiþ jera ganoha.
— ἤρξατο δὲ πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγειν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην: ἄνθρωπός [τις] ἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν χρόνους ἱκανούς.
— Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
Luke 20:10
CA  jah in mela insandida du þaim aurtjam skalk, ei akranis þis weinagardis gebeina imma. þai aurtjans usbliggwandans ina insandidedun lausana.
— καὶ καιρῷ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς δοῦλον, ἵνα ἀπὸ τοῦ καρποῦ τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος δώσουσιν αὐτῷ: οἱ δὲ γεωργοὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν αὐτὸν δείραντες κενόν.
— And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
Luke 20:11
CA  jah anaaiauk sandjan anþarana skalk; eis jah jainana bliggwandans jah unswerandans insandidedun lausana.
— καὶ προσέθετο ἕτερον πέμψαι δοῦλον: οἱ δὲ κἀκεῖνον δείραντες καὶ ἀτιμάσαντες ἐξαπέστειλαν κενόν.
— And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
Luke 20:12
CA  jah anaaiauk sandjan þridjan; eis jah þana gawondondans uswaurpun.
— καὶ προσέθετο τρίτον πέμψαι: οἱ δὲ καὶ τοῦτον τραυματίσαντες ἐξέβαλον.
— And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
Luke 20:13
CA  qaþ þan sa frauja þis weinagardis: hva taujau? sandja sunu meinana þana liuban; aufto þana gasaihvandans aistand.
— εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος, τί ποιήσω; πέμψω τὸν υἱόν μου τὸν ἀγαπητόν: ἴσως τοῦτον ἐντραπήσονται.
— Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
Luke 20:14
CA  gasaihvandans þan ina þai aurtjans þahtedun miþ sis misso qiþandans, sa ist sa arbinumja; afslaham ina, ei uns wairþai þata arbi.
— ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ γεωργοὶ διελογίζοντο πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες, οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος: ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτόν, ἵνα ἡμῶν γένηται ἡ κληρονομία.
— But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
Luke 20:15
CA  jah uswairpandans ina ut us þamma weinagarda usqemun. hva nu taujai im frauja þis weinagardis?
— καὶ ἐκβαλόντες αὐτὸν ἔξω τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος ἀπέκτειναν. τί οὖν ποιήσει αὐτοῖς ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος;
— So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
Luke 20:16
CA  qimiþ jah usqisteiþ aurtjam þaim jah gibiþ þana weinagard anþaraim. gahausjandans qeþun þan: nis~sijai.
— ἐλεύσεται καὶ ἀπολέσει τοὺς γεωργοὺς τούτους, καὶ δώσει τὸν ἀμπελῶνα ἄλλοις. ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἶπαν, μὴ γένοιτο.
— He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
Luke 20:17

— ὁ δὲ ἐμβλέψας αὐτοῖς εἶπεν, τί οὖν ἐστιν τὸ γεγραμμένον τοῦτο: λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας;
— And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
Luke 20:18
CA  hvazuh saei driusiþ ana þana stain, gakrotuda; ana þanei driusiþ, diswinþeiþ ina.
— πᾶς ὁ πεσὼν ἐπ' ἐκεῖνον τὸν λίθον συνθλασθήσεται: ἐφ' ὃν δ' ἂν πέσῃ, λικμήσει αὐτόν.
— Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Luke 20:19
CA  jah sokidedun þai bokarjos jah auhumistans gudjans uslagjan ana ina handuns in þizai hveilai jah ohtedun þo managein; froþun auk þatei du im þo gajukon qaþ.
— καὶ ἐζήτησαν οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐπιβαλεῖν ἐπ' αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν τὸν λαόν: ἔγνωσαν γὰρ ὅτι πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην.
— And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
Luke 20:20
CA  jah afleiþandans insandidedun ferjans, þans us liutein taiknjandans sik garaihtans wisan, ei gafaifaheina is waurdei jah atgebeina ina reikja jah waldufnja kindinis.
— καὶ παρατηρήσαντες ἀπέστειλαν ἐγκαθέτους ὑποκρινομένους ἑαυτοὺς δικαίους εἶναι, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται αὐτοῦ λόγου, ὥστε παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῇ ἀρχῇ καὶ τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος.
— And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
Luke 20:21
CA  jah frehun ina qiþandans: laisari, witum þatei raihtaba rodeis jah laiseis jah ni andsaihvis andwairþi, ak bi sunjai wig gudis laiseis:
— καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ὀρθῶς λέγεις καὶ διδάσκεις καὶ οὐ λαμβάνεις πρόσωπον, ἀλλ' ἐπ' ἀληθείας τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ διδάσκεις:
— And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
Luke 20:22
CA  skuldu ist unsis kaisara gild giban þau niu?
— ἔξεστιν ἡμᾶς καίσαρι φόρον δοῦναι ἢ οὔ;
— Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
Luke 20:23
CA  bisaihvands þan ize unselein Iesus qaþ du im: hva mik fraisiþ?
— κατανοήσας δὲ αὐτῶν τὴν πανουργίαν εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς,
— But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
Luke 20:24
CA  ataugeiþ mis skatt: hvis habaiþ manleikan jah ufarmeli? andhafjandans þan qeþun: kaisaris.
— δείξατέ μοι δηνάριον: τίνος ἔχει εἰκόνα καὶ ἐπιγραφήν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, καίσαρος.
— Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
Luke 20:25
CA   is qaþuh du im: us~nu~gibiþ þo kaisaris kaisara jah þo gudis guda.
— ὁ δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, τοίνυν ἀπόδοτε τὰ καίσαρος καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῷ θεῷ.
— And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
Luke 20:26
CA  jah ni mahtedun gafahan is waurde in andwairþja manageins jah sildaleikjandans andawaurde is gaþahaidedun.
— καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἐπιλαβέσθαι αὐτοῦ ῥήματος ἐναντίον τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ θαυμάσαντες ἐπὶ τῇ ἀποκρίσει αὐτοῦ ἐσίγησαν.
— And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
Luke 20:27
CA  du atgaggandans þan sumai Saddukaie, þaiei qiþand usstass ni wisan, frehun ina
— προσελθόντες δέ τινες τῶν σαδδουκαίων, οἱ [ἀντι]λέγοντες ἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν
— Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
Luke 20:28
CA  qiþandans: laisari, Moses gamelida uns, jabai hvis broþar gadauþnai aigands qen, jah sa unbarnahs gadauþnai, ei nimai broþar is þo qen jah urraisjai fraiw broþr seinamma.
— λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, μωϋσῆς ἔγραψεν ἡμῖν, ἐάν τινος ἀδελφὸς ἀποθάνῃ ἔχων γυναῖκα, καὶ οὗτος ἄτεκνος ᾖ, ἵνα λάβῃ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ ἐξαναστήσῃ σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ.
— Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
Luke 20:29
CA  sibun nu broþrjus wesun, jah sa frumista nimands qen gadauþnoda unbarnahs.
— ἑπτὰ οὖν ἀδελφοὶ ἦσαν: καὶ ὁ πρῶτος λαβὼν γυναῖκα ἀπέθανεν ἄτεκνος:
— There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
Luke 20:30
CA  jah nam anþar þo qen, jah sa gaswalt unbarnahs.
— καὶ ὁ δεύτερος
— And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
Luke 20:31
CA  jah þridja nam þo samaleiko; samaleiko þan jah þai sibun, jah ni biliþun barne jah gaswultun.
— καὶ ὁ τρίτος ἔλαβεν αὐτήν, ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ οἱ ἑπτὰ οὐ κατέλιπον τέκνα καὶ ἀπέθανον.
— And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
Luke 20:32
CA  Spedista allaize gadauþnoda jah so qens.
— ὕστερον καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἀπέθανεν.
— Last of all the woman died also.
Luke 20:33
CA  in þizai usstassai nu, hvarjis þize wairþiþ qens? þai auk sibun aihtedun þo du qenai.
— ἡ γυνὴ οὖν ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τίνος αὐτῶν γίνεται γυνή; οἱ γὰρ ἑπτὰ ἔσχον αὐτὴν γυναῖκα.
— Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
Luke 20:34
CA  jah andhafjands qaþ du im Iesus: þai sunjus þis aiwis liugand jah liuganda;
— καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου γαμοῦσιν καὶ γαμίσκονται,
— And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
Luke 20:35
CA   þaiei wairþai sind jainis aiwis niutan jah usstassais us dauþaim, ni liugand ni liuganda;
— οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε γαμίζονται:
— But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
Luke 20:36
CA  nih allis gaswiltan þanaseiþs magun, ibnans aggilum auk sind jah sunjus sind gudis, usstassais sunjus wisandans.
— οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀποθανεῖν ἔτι δύνανται, ἰσάγγελοι γάρ εἰσιν, καὶ υἱοί εἰσιν θεοῦ, τῆς ἀναστάσεως υἱοὶ ὄντες.
— Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Luke 20:37
CA  aþþan þatei urreisand dauþans, jah Moses bandwida ana aihvatundjai, swe qiþiþ: sahv fraujan guþ Abrahamis jah guþ Isakis jah guþ Iakobis.
— ὅτι δὲ ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροὶ καὶ μωϋσῆς ἐμήνυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς βάτου, ὡς λέγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἀβραὰμ καὶ θεὸν ἰσαὰκ καὶ θεὸν ἰακώβ:
— Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Luke 20:38
CA  aþþan guþ nist dauþaize, ak qiwaize; allai auk imma liband.
— θεὸς δὲ οὐκ ἔστιν νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων, πάντες γὰρ αὐτῷ ζῶσιν.
— For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
Luke 20:39
CA  andhafjandans þan sumai þize bokarje qeþun: laisari, waila qast.
— ἀποκριθέντες δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων εἶπαν, διδάσκαλε, καλῶς εἶπας:
— Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
Luke 20:40
CA  niþ~þan þanaseiþs gadaurstedun fraihnan ina ni waihtais.
— οὐκέτι γὰρ ἐτόλμων ἐπερωτᾶν αὐτὸν οὐδέν.
— And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
Luke 20:41
CA  qaþ þan du im: hvaiwa qiþand Xristu sunu Daweidis wisan?
— εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, πῶς λέγουσιν τὸν χριστὸν εἶναι δαυὶδ υἱόν;
— And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?
Luke 20:42
CA  jah silba Daweid qiþiþ in bokom psalmo<no>: qaþ frauja du fraujin meinamma: sit af taihswon meinai,
— αὐτὸς γὰρ δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν, εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου, κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου
— And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
Luke 20:43
CA  unte ik galagja fijands þeinans fotubaurd fotiwe þeinaize.
— ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου.
— Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Luke 20:44
CA  Daweid ina fraujan haitiþ, jah hvaiwa sunus imma ist?
— δαυὶδ οὖν κύριον αὐτὸν καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς αὐτοῦ υἱός ἐστιν;
— David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
Luke 20:45
CA  at gahausjandein þan allai managein qaþ du siponjam seinaim:
— ἀκούοντος δὲ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς [αὐτοῦ],
— Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
Luke 20:46
CA  atsaihviþ faura bokarjam þaim wiljandam gaggan in hveitaim ....
— προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις,
— Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
