Luke chapter 18

Luke 18:1
CA  Qaþuþ~þan jah gajukon im du þammei sinteino skulun bidjan jah ni wairþan usgrudjans,
— ἔλεγεν δὲ παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς πρὸς τὸ δεῖν πάντοτε προσεύχεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ μὴ ἐγκακεῖν,
— And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Luke 18:2

— λέγων, κριτής τις ἦν ἔν τινι πόλει τὸν θεὸν μὴ φοβούμενος καὶ ἄνθρωπον μὴ ἐντρεπόμενος.
— Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
Luke 18:3

— χήρα δὲ ἦν ἐν τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα, ἐκδίκησόν με ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀντιδίκου μου.
— And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
Luke 18:4

— καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἐπὶ χρόνον, μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα εἶπεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ, εἰ καὶ τὸν θεὸν οὐ φοβοῦμαι οὐδὲ ἄνθρωπον ἐντρέπομαι,
— And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Luke 18:5
CA   in þizei usþriutiþ mis so widuwo, fraweita þo, ibai und andi qimandei usagljai mis.
— διά γε τὸ παρέχειν μοι κόπον τὴν χήραν ταύτην ἐκδικήσω αὐτήν, ἵνα μὴ εἰς τέλος ἐρχομένη ὑπωπιάζῃ με.
— Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
Luke 18:6
CA  qaþ þan frauja: hauseiþ hva staua inwindiþos qiþiþ.
— εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος, ἀκούσατε τί ὁ κριτὴς τῆς ἀδικίας λέγει:
— And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
Luke 18:7
CA   guþ niu gawrikai þans gawalidans seinans, þans wopjandans du sis dagam jah nahtam, jah usbeidands ist ana im?
— ὁ δὲ θεὸς οὐ μὴ ποιήσῃ τὴν ἐκδίκησιν τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν βοώντων αὐτῷ ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός, καὶ μακροθυμεῖ ἐπ' αὐτοῖς;
— And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Luke 18:8
CA  aþþan qiþa izwis þatei gawrikiþ ins sprauto. sweþauh sunus mans qimands bi~u~gitai galaubein ana airþai?
— λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ποιήσει τὴν ἐκδίκησιν αὐτῶν ἐν τάχει. πλὴν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐλθὼν ἆρα εὑρήσει τὴν πίστιν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς;
— I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Luke 18:9
CA  qaþ þan du sumaim, þaiei silbans trauaidedun sis ei weseina garaihtai jah frakunnandans þaim anþaraim, þo gajukon:
— εἶπεν δὲ καὶ πρός τινας τοὺς πεποιθότας ἐφ' ἑαυτοῖς ὅτι εἰσὶν δίκαιοι καὶ ἐξουθενοῦντας τοὺς λοιποὺς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην:
— And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Luke 18:10

— ἄνθρωποι δύο ἀνέβησαν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν προσεύξασθαι, ὁ εἷς φαρισαῖος καὶ ὁ ἕτερος τελώνης.
— Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
Luke 18:11
CA  sa Fareisaius standands sis þo bad: guþ, awiliudo þus, unte ni im swaswe þai anþarai mans, wilwans, inwindai, horos, aiþþau <jah> swaswe sa motareis.
— ὁ φαρισαῖος σταθεὶς πρὸς ἑαυτὸν ταῦτα προσηύχετο, ὁ θεός, εὐχαριστῶ σοι ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ ὥσπερ οἱ λοιποὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ἅρπαγες, ἄδικοι, μοιχοί, ἢ καὶ ὡς οὗτος ὁ τελώνης:
— The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Luke 18:12
CA  fasta twaim sinþam sabbataus jah afdailja taihundon dail allis þize gastalda.
— νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου, ἀποδεκατῶ πάντα ὅσα κτῶμαι.
— I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Luke 18:13
CA  jah sa motareis fairraþro standands ni wilda nih augona seina ushafjan du himina, ak sloh in brusts seinos qiþands: guþ, hulþs sijais mis frawaurhtamma.
— ὁ δὲ τελώνης μακρόθεν ἑστὼς οὐκ ἤθελεν οὐδὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἐπᾶραι εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν, ἀλλ' ἔτυπτεν τὸ στῆθος αὐτοῦ λέγων, ὁ θεός, ἱλάσθητί μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ.
— And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Luke 18:14
CA  qiþa izwis: atiddja sa garaihtoza gataihans du garda seinamma þau raihtis jains; unte sahvazuh saei hauheiþ sik silba, gahnaiwjada, saei hnaiweiþ sik silba, ushauhjada.
— λέγω ὑμῖν, κατέβη οὗτος δεδικαιωμένος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ παρ' ἐκεῖνον: ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται, ὁ δὲ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται.
— I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Luke 18:15

— προσέφερον δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ τὰ βρέφη ἵνα αὐτῶν ἅπτηται: ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἐπετίμων αὐτοῖς.
— And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
Luke 18:16
CA   Iesus athaitands ins qaþ: letiþ þo barna gaggan du mis jah ni warjiþ þo, unte þize swaleikaize ist þiudangardi gudis.
— ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς προσεκαλέσατο αὐτὰ λέγων, ἄφετε τὰ παιδία ἔρχεσθαι πρός με καὶ μὴ κωλύετε αὐτά, τῶν γὰρ τοιούτων ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ.
— But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Luke 18:17
CA  amen, qiþa izwis, saei ni andnimiþ þiudangardja gudis swe barn, ni qimiþ in izai.
— ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὃς ἂν μὴ δέξηται τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ὡς παιδίον, οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς αὐτήν.
— Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Luke 18:18
CA  jah frah ina sums reike qiþands: laisari þiuþeiga, hva taujands libainais aiweinons arbja wairþau?
— καὶ ἐπηρώτησέν τις αὐτὸν ἄρχων λέγων, διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω;
— And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Luke 18:19
CA  qaþ þan du imma Iesus: hva mik qiþis þiuþeigana? ni ainshun þiuþeigs niba ains guþ.
— εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς, τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν; οὐδεὶς ἀγαθὸς εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ θεός.
— And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
Luke 18:20

— τὰς ἐντολὰς οἶδας: μὴ μοιχεύσῃς, μὴ φονεύσῃς, μὴ κλέψῃς, μὴ ψευδομαρτυρήσῃς, τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα.
— Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
Luke 18:21

— ὁ δὲ εἶπεν, ταῦτα πάντα ἐφύλαξα ἐκ νεότητος.
— And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
Luke 18:22
CA  gahausjands þan þata Iesus qaþ du imma: nauh ainis þus wan ist: all þatei habais frabugei jah gadailei unledaim, jah habais huzd in himina, jah hiri laistjan mik.
— ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, ἔτι ἕν σοι λείπει: πάντα ὅσα ἔχεις πώλησον καὶ διάδος πτωχοῖς, καὶ ἕξεις θησαυρὸν ἐν [τοῖς] οὐρανοῖς, καὶ δεῦρο ἀκολούθει μοι.
— Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
Luke 18:23

— ὁ δὲ ἀκούσας ταῦτα περίλυπος ἐγενήθη, ἦν γὰρ πλούσιος σφόδρα.
— And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
Luke 18:24
CA  gasaihvands þan ina Iesus gaurana waurþanana qaþ: hvaiwa agluba þai faihu habandans inngaleiþand in þiudangardja gudis!
— ἰδὼν δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ ἰησοῦς [περίλυπον γενόμενον] εἶπεν, πῶς δυσκόλως οἱ τὰ χρήματα ἔχοντες εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσπορεύονται:
— And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Luke 18:25
CA  raþizo allis ist ulbandau þairh þairko neþlos þairhleiþan þau gabigamma in þiudangardja gudis galeiþan.
— εὐκοπώτερον γάρ ἐστιν κάμηλον διὰ τρήματος βελόνης εἰσελθεῖν ἢ πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν.
— For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Luke 18:26
CA  qeþun þan þai gahausjandans: an hvas mag ganisan?
— εἶπαν δὲ οἱ ἀκούσαντες, καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι;
— And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
Luke 18:27
CA   is qaþ: þata unmahteigo at mannam mahteig ist at guda.
— ὁ δὲ εἶπεν, τὰ ἀδύνατα παρὰ ἀνθρώποις δυνατὰ παρὰ τῷ θεῷ ἐστιν.
— And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Luke 18:28
CA  qaþ þan Paitrus: sai, weis aflailotum allata jah laistidedum þuk.
— εἶπεν δὲ ὁ πέτρος, ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφέντες τὰ ἴδια ἠκολουθήσαμέν σοι.
— Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
Luke 18:29
CA   is qaþuh du im: amen, qiþa izwis þatei ni ainshun ist þize afletandane gard aiþþau fadrein aiþþau broþruns aiþþau qen aiþþau barna in þiudangardjos gudis,
— ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδείς ἐστιν ὃς ἀφῆκεν οἰκίαν ἢ γυναῖκα ἢ ἀδελφοὺς ἢ γονεῖς ἢ τέκνα ἕνεκεν τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ,
— And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
Luke 18:30
CA  saei ni andnimai managfalþ in þamma mela jah in aiwa þamma qimandin libain aiweinon.
— ὃς οὐχὶ μὴ [ἀπο]λάβῃ πολλαπλασίονα ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ αἰῶνι τῷ ἐρχομένῳ ζωὴν αἰώνιον.
— Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
Luke 18:31

— παραλαβὼν δὲ τοὺς δώδεκα εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ τελεσθήσεται πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα διὰ τῶν προφητῶν τῷ υἱῷ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου:
— Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
Luke 18:32
CA  atgibada auk þiudom jah bilaikada jah anamahtjada jah bispeiwada,
— παραδοθήσεται γὰρ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἐμπαιχθήσεται καὶ ὑβρισθήσεται καὶ ἐμπτυσθήσεται,
— For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
Luke 18:33

— καὶ μαστιγώσαντες ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν, καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἀναστήσεται.
— And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
Luke 18:34

— καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐδὲν τούτων συνῆκαν, καὶ ἦν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο κεκρυμμένον ἀπ' αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκον τὰ λεγόμενα.
— And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
Luke 18:35

— And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
Luke 18:36

— ἀκούσας δὲ ὄχλου διαπορευομένου ἐπυνθάνετο τί εἴη τοῦτο:
— And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
Luke 18:37

— ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ αὐτῷ ὅτι ἰησοῦς ὁ ναζωραῖος παρέρχεται.
— And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
Luke 18:38

— καὶ ἐβόησεν λέγων, ἰησοῦ, υἱὲ δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.
— And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
Luke 18:39

— καὶ οἱ προάγοντες ἐπετίμων αὐτῷ ἵνα σιγήσῃ: αὐτὸς δὲ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἔκραζεν, υἱὲ δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.
— And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
Luke 18:40

— σταθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς ἐκέλευσεν αὐτὸν ἀχθῆναι πρὸς αὐτόν. ἐγγίσαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτόν,
— And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
Luke 18:41
CA  qiþands: hva þus wileis ei taujau? is qaþ: frauja, ei ussaihvau.
— τί σοι θέλεις ποιήσω; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν, κύριε, ἵνα ἀναβλέψω.
— Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
Luke 18:42
CA  jah Iesus qaþ du imma: ussaihv, galaubeins þeina ganasida þuk.
— καὶ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ, ἀνάβλεψον: ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε.
— And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
Luke 18:43
CA  jah suns ussahv jah laistida ina awiliudonds guda. jah alla managei gasaihvandei gaf hazein guda.
— καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀνέβλεψεν, καὶ ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ δοξάζων τὸν θεόν. καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἰδὼν ἔδωκεν αἶνον τῷ θεῷ.
— And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
