John chapter 9

John 9:1
CA  Jah þairhgaggands gaumida mann blindamma us gabaurþai.
— καὶ παράγων εἶδεν ἄνθρωπον τυφλὸν ἐκ γενετῆς.
— And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
John 9:2
CA  þaruh frehun ina siponjos is qiþandans: rabbei, hvas frawaurhta, sau þau fadrein is, ei blinds gabaurans warþ?
— καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες, ῥαββί, τίς ἥμαρτεν, οὗτος ἢ οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ, ἵνα τυφλὸς γεννηθῇ;
— And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
John 9:3
CA  andhof Iesus: nih sa frawaurhta nih fadrein is, ak ei bairhta waurþeina waurstwa gudis ana imma.
— ἀπεκρίθη ἰησοῦς, οὔτε οὗτος ἥμαρτεν οὔτε οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ, ἀλλ' ἵνα φανερωθῇ τὰ ἔργα τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ.
— Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
John 9:4
CA  ik skal waurkjan waurstwa þis sandjandins mik, unte dags ist; qimiþ nahts, þanei ni manna mag waurkjan.
— ἡμᾶς δεῖ ἐργάζεσθαι τὰ ἔργα τοῦ πέμψαντός με ἕως ἡμέρα ἐστίν: ἔρχεται νὺξ ὅτε οὐδεὶς δύναται ἐργάζεσθαι.
— I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
John 9:5
CA  þan in þamma fairhvau im, liuhaþ im þis fairhvaus.
— ὅταν ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ ὦ, φῶς εἰμι τοῦ κόσμου.
— As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
John 9:6
CA  þata qiþands gaspaiw dalaþ, jah gawaurhta fani us þamma spaiskuldra, jah gasmait imma ana augona þata fani þamma blindin,
— ταῦτα εἰπὼν ἔπτυσεν χαμαὶ καὶ ἐποίησεν πηλὸν ἐκ τοῦ πτύσματος, καὶ ἐπέχρισεν αὐτοῦ τὸν πηλὸν ἐπὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς
— When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
John 9:7
CA  jah qaþ du imma: gagg þwahan in swumsl Siloamis, þatei gaskeirjada insandiþs. galaiþ jah afþwoh jah qam saihvands.
— καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ, ὕπαγε νίψαι εἰς τὴν κολυμβήθραν τοῦ σιλωάμ ὃ ἑρμηνεύεται ἀπεσταλμένος. ἀπῆλθεν οὖν καὶ ἐνίψατο, καὶ ἦλθεν βλέπων.
— And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
John 9:8
CA  þanuh garaznans jah þai saihvandans ina faurþis, þatei is bidagwa was, qeþun: niu sa ist saei sat aihtronds?
— οἱ οὖν γείτονες καὶ οἱ θεωροῦντες αὐτὸν τὸ πρότερον ὅτι προσαίτης ἦν ἔλεγον, οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ καθήμενος καὶ προσαιτῶν;
— The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
John 9:9
CA  sumaih qeþun: þatei sa ist; sumaih þatei galeiks þamma ist; is qaþ: þatei ik im.
— ἄλλοι ἔλεγον ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν: ἄλλοι ἔλεγον, οὐχί, ἀλλὰ ὅμοιος αὐτῷ ἐστιν. ἐκεῖνος ἔλεγεν ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι.
— Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
John 9:10
CA  þanuh qeþun du imma: hvaiwa usluknodedun þus þo augona?
— ἔλεγον οὖν αὐτῷ, πῶς [οὖν] ἠνεῴχθησάν σου οἱ ὀφθαλμοί;
— Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
John 9:11
CA  andhof jains jah qaþ: manna haitans Iesus fani gawaurhta jah bismait mis augona jah qaþ mis: gagg afþwahan in þata swumfsl Siloamis; ik galaiþ jah biþwahands ussahv.
— ἀπεκρίθη ἐκεῖνος, ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ λεγόμενος ἰησοῦς πηλὸν ἐποίησεν καὶ ἐπέχρισέν μου τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς καὶ εἶπέν μοι ὅτι ὕπαγε εἰς τὸν σιλωὰμ καὶ νίψαι: ἀπελθὼν οὖν καὶ νιψάμενος ἀνέβλεψα.
— He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
John 9:12
CA  qeþun þan du imma: hvar ist sa? is qaþ: ni wait.
— καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ, ποῦ ἐστιν ἐκεῖνος; λέγει, οὐκ οἶδα.
— Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
John 9:13
CA  gatiuhand ina du Fareisaium, þana saei was blinds.
— ἄγουσιν αὐτὸν πρὸς τοὺς φαρισαίους τόν ποτε τυφλόν.
— They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
John 9:14
CA  wasuh þan sabbato, þan þata fani gawaurhta Iesus jah uslauk imma augona.
— ἦν δὲ σάββατον ἐν ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ τὸν πηλὸν ἐποίησεν ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ ἀνέῳξεν αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς.
— And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
John 9:15
CA  aftra þan frehun ina jah þai Fareisaieis hvaiwa ussahv; is qaþ jah þaim: fani galagida mis ana augona jah afþwoh, jah saihva.
— πάλιν οὖν ἠρώτων αὐτὸν καὶ οἱ φαρισαῖοι πῶς ἀνέβλεψεν. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, πηλὸν ἐπέθηκέν μου ἐπὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς, καὶ ἐνιψάμην, καὶ βλέπω.
— Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
John 9:16
CA  qeþun þan sumai þize Fareisaie: sa manna nist fram guda, þande sabbate daga ni witaiþ. sumaih qeþun: hvaiwa mag manna frawaurhts swaleikos taiknins taujan? jah missaqiss warþ miþ im.
— ἔλεγον οὖν ἐκ τῶν φαρισαίων τινές, οὐκ ἔστιν οὗτος παρὰ θεοῦ ὁ ἄνθρωπος, ὅτι τὸ σάββατον οὐ τηρεῖ. ἄλλοι [δὲ] ἔλεγον, πῶς δύναται ἄνθρωπος ἁμαρτωλὸς τοιαῦτα σημεῖα ποιεῖν; καὶ σχίσμα ἦν ἐν αὐτοῖς.
— Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
John 9:17
CA  qeþunuh du þamma faurþis blindin aftra: þu hva qiþis bi þana ei uslauk þus augona? is qaþuh: þatei praufetus ist.
— λέγουσιν οὖν τῷ τυφλῷ πάλιν, τί σὺ λέγεις περὶ αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἠνέῳξέν σου τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν ὅτι προφήτης ἐστίν.
— They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
John 9:18
CA  ni galaubidedun þan Iudaieis bi ina þatei is blinds wesi jah ussehvi, unte atwopidedun þans fadrein is, þis ussaihvandins.
— οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν οὖν οἱ ἰουδαῖοι περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἦν τυφλὸς καὶ ἀνέβλεψεν, ἕως ὅτου ἐφώνησαν τοὺς γονεῖς αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἀναβλέψαντος
— But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
John 9:19
CA  jah frehun ins qiþandans: sau ist sa sunus izwar þanei jus qiþiþ þatei blinds gabaurans waurþi? hvaiwa nu saihviþ?
— καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτοὺς λέγοντες, οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς ὑμῶν, ὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη; πῶς οὖν βλέπει ἄρτι;
— And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
John 9:20
CA  andhofun þan im þai fadrein is jah qeþun: witum þatei sa ist sunus unsar, jah þatei blinds gabaurans warþ;
— ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ καὶ εἶπαν, οἴδαμεν ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς ἡμῶν καὶ ὅτι τυφλὸς ἐγεννήθη:
— His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
John 9:21
CA   hvaiwa nu saihviþ ni witum, aiþþau hvas uslauk imma þo augona weis ni witum; silba uswahsans ist, ina fraihniþ, silba bi sik rodjai.
— πῶς δὲ νῦν βλέπει οὐκ οἴδαμεν, ἢ τίς ἤνοιξεν αὐτοῦ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἡμεῖς οὐκ οἴδαμεν: αὐτὸν ἐρωτήσατε, ἡλικίαν ἔχει, αὐτὸς περὶ ἑαυτοῦ λαλήσει.
— But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
John 9:22
CA  þata qeþun þai fadrein is, unte ohtedun sis Iudaiuns; juþan auk gaqeþun sis Iudaieis, ei, jabai hvas ina andhaihaiti Xristu, utana swnagogais wairþai.
— ταῦτα εἶπαν οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ ὅτι ἐφοβοῦντο τοὺς ἰουδαίους, ἤδη γὰρ συνετέθειντο οἱ ἰουδαῖοι ἵνα ἐάν τις αὐτὸν ὁμολογήσῃ χριστόν, ἀποσυνάγωγος γένηται.
— These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
John 9:23
CA  duhþe þai berusjos is qeþun þatei uswahsans ist, silban fraihniþ.
— διὰ τοῦτο οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ εἶπαν ὅτι ἡλικίαν ἔχει, αὐτὸν ἐπερωτήσατε.
— Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
John 9:24
CA  atwopidedun þan anþaramma sinþa þana mannan saei was blinds, jah qeþun du imma: gif hauhein guda! weis witum þatei sa manna frawaurhts ist.
— ἐφώνησαν οὖν τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἐκ δευτέρου ὃς ἦν τυφλὸς καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ, δὸς δόξαν τῷ θεῷ: ἡμεῖς οἴδαμεν ὅτι οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἁμαρτωλός ἐστιν.
— Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
John 9:25
CA  þanuh andhof jains: jabai frawaurhts ist, ik ni wait; þat~ain wait ei blinds was, nu saihva.
— ἀπεκρίθη οὖν ἐκεῖνος, εἰ ἁμαρτωλός ἐστιν οὐκ οἶδα: ἓν οἶδα, ὅτι τυφλὸς ὢν ἄρτι βλέπω.
— He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
John 9:26
CA  þanuh qeþun <du imma> aftra: hva gatawida þus? hvaiwa uslauk þus augona?
— εἶπον οὖν αὐτῷ, τί ἐποίησέν σοι; πῶς ἤνοιξέν σου τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς;
— Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
John 9:27
CA  andhof im: qaþ izwis ju jah ni hausideduþ; hva aftra wileiþ hausjan? ibai jah jus wileiþ þamma siponjos wairþan?
— ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς, εἶπον ὑμῖν ἤδη καὶ οὐκ ἠκούσατε: τί πάλιν θέλετε ἀκούειν; μὴ καὶ ὑμεῖς θέλετε αὐτοῦ μαθηταὶ γενέσθαι;
— He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
John 9:28
CA  þanuh lailoun imma jah qeþun: þu is siponeis þamma, weis Mose siponjos sijum.
— καὶ ἐλοιδόρησαν αὐτὸν καὶ εἶπον, σὺ μαθητὴς εἶ ἐκείνου, ἡμεῖς δὲ τοῦ μωϋσέως ἐσμὲν μαθηταί:
— Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.
John 9:29
CA  weis witum þatei du Mose rodida guþ, þana ni kunnum, hvaþro ist.
— ἡμεῖς οἴδαμεν ὅτι μωϋσεῖ λελάληκεν ὁ θεός, τοῦτον δὲ οὐκ οἴδαμεν πόθεν ἐστίν.
— We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
John 9:30
CA  andhof sa manna jah qaþ du im: auk in þamma sildaleik ist, þatei jus ni wituþ hvaþro ist, jah uslauk mis augona.
— ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἄνθρωπος καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, ἐν τούτῳ γὰρ τὸ θαυμαστόν ἐστιν ὅτι ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε πόθεν ἐστίν, καὶ ἤνοιξέν μου τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς.
— The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
John 9:31
CA  witumuh þan þatei guþ frawaurhtaim ni andhauseiþ, ak jabai hvas gudblostreis ist jah wiljan is taujiþ, þamma hauseiþ.
— οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἁμαρτωλῶν ὁ θεὸς οὐκ ἀκούει, ἀλλ' ἐάν τις θεοσεβὴς ᾖ καὶ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ποιῇ τούτου ἀκούει.
— Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
John 9:32
CA  fram aiwa ni gahausiþ was þatei uslukiþ hvas augona blindamma gabauranamma.
— ἐκ τοῦ αἰῶνος οὐκ ἠκούσθη ὅτι ἠνέῳξέν τις ὀφθαλμοὺς τυφλοῦ γεγεννημένου:
— Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
John 9:33
CA  nih wesi sa fram guda, ni mahtedi taujan ni waiht.
— εἰ μὴ ἦν οὗτος παρὰ θεοῦ, οὐκ ἠδύνατο ποιεῖν οὐδέν.
— If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
John 9:34
CA  andhofun jah qeþun du imma: in frawaurhtim þu gabaurans warst alls jah þu laiseis unsis? jah uswaurpun imma ut.
— ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ, ἐν ἁμαρτίαις σὺ ἐγεννήθης ὅλος, καὶ σὺ διδάσκεις ἡμᾶς; καὶ ἐξέβαλον αὐτὸν ἔξω.
— They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
John 9:35
CA  hausida Iesus þatei uswaurpun imma ut, jah bigat ina qaþuh du imma: þu ga~u~laubeis du sunau gudis?
— ἤκουσεν ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἐξέβαλον αὐτὸν ἔξω, καὶ εὑρὼν αὐτὸν εἶπεν, σὺ πιστεύεις εἰς τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου;
— Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
John 9:36
CA  andhof jains jah qaþ: an hvas ist, frauja, ei galaubjau du imma?
— ἀπεκρίθη ἐκεῖνος καὶ εἶπεν, καὶ τίς ἐστιν, κύριε, ἵνα πιστεύσω εἰς αὐτόν;
— He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
John 9:37
CA  qaþ þan imma Iesus: jah gasahvt ina jah saei rodeiþ miþ þus, sa ist.
— εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἑώρακας αὐτὸν καὶ ὁ λαλῶν μετὰ σοῦ ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν.
— And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
John 9:38
CA   is qaþuh: galaubja, frauja; jah inwait ina.
— ὁ δὲ ἔφη, πιστεύω, κύριε: καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ.
— And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
John 9:39
CA  jah qaþ Iesus: du stauai ik in þamma fairhvau qam, ei þai unsaihvandans saihvaina jah þai saihvandans blindai wairþaina.
— καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἰησοῦς, εἰς κρίμα ἐγὼ εἰς τὸν κόσμον τοῦτον ἦλθον, ἵνα οἱ μὴ βλέποντες βλέπωσιν καὶ οἱ βλέποντες τυφλοὶ γένωνται.
— And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
John 9:40
CA  jah hausidedun þize Fareisaie sumai þata, þai wisandans miþ imma, jah qeþun du imma: ibai jah weis blindai sijum?
— ἤκουσαν ἐκ τῶν φαρισαίων ταῦτα οἱ μετ' αὐτοῦ ὄντες, καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ, μὴ καὶ ἡμεῖς τυφλοί ἐσμεν;
— And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
John 9:41
CA  qaþ im Iesus: blindai weseiþ, ni þau habaidedeiþ frawaurhtais; nu qiþiþ þatei gasaihvam; eiþan frawaurhts izwara þairhwisiþ.
— εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, εἰ τυφλοὶ ἦτε, οὐκ ἂν εἴχετε ἁμαρτίαν: νῦν δὲ λέγετε ὅτι βλέπομεν: ἡ ἁμαρτία ὑμῶν μένει.
— Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
